PCCR ATHLETICS 2009-2010 Go! Go! Go! Win! Win! Win! The PCCR Sports Team has been making headlines in the various athletic competitions during the school year. In the recently concluded exhibition game between the PCCR Enforcers and the All-American team Faith Academy Vanguards held at Faith Academy in Antipolo City last February 4, 2010, the Enforcers started strong and even led a 6-point margin in the 3rd Quarters. However, despite the team’s heroic efforts, the Vanguards eventually took home the victory with just a three-point lead against the height disadvantaged Enforcers. Despite the loss, it was still a victory to hold the team’s own against the imports. A series of wins in the 2010 UCLAA 2nd Season Basketball Tournament at the Pasay City Sports Complex last February 19, 2010 solidified PCCR Enforcers place in basketball history. In the Juniors Division, UCLAA defending champion PCCR Enforcers battled it out and overwhelmed King’s Montessori School with a 46 points lead at the final score of 93-47. This is PCCR Enfocers second straight crown since the UCLAA Basketball Tournament begun. Handled by veteran coach Bang Tumapat, the team relied on the big games of Bugoy Mendano, Bikoy Marte, JR Valera, Ian and Angelo Alano, surprising the King’s Montessori who beat the Jr. Enforcers in the first round of elimination. The King’s were unable to make a basket because of PCCR’s strong defense. The King’s could not run their usual plays and during the half-time break, PCCR was already leading with an imposing 47 to the opponent’s 28 points. This was their second win in the Championship Round. Their final score in the first round was 83-47. Bikoy Marte made 13 pts., Mendano 22, Ian Alano 10, Valera 7, Angelo Alano 15, Aquino 12, Sunga 5, Elomina 2, Necia 2, Villanueva 2 and Bandalan 3. Marte was the MVP and with Valera, was in the Mythical Five. This win is just another title to be added to the Junior Enforcers growing list of achievements – 11 Championship titles in the Colleges and Universities Sports Association (CUSA), 2 titles in the Nike Summer League and another in the International Tournament in Taiwan, the Adidas Streetball Challenge. In the Seniors Division, PCCR Enforcers bagged the Third Place after winning against De Ocampo Memorial Challenge with the final score of 78-72. Even after losing key players like Arjay Dionero, Joel Mendoza and Mark Garcia, Coach Bang Tumapat was confident that the team fought hard to make it to the Final Four. Alvin Pelayo, in his final year, made a mark by making 23 pts. His efforts were rewarded as he made it to the Mythical Five. Other players contributed scores were Mark Pedroso 6 points, Jim Jacinto 17, Coral 6, Manalo 2, Tubera 2, Ventura 6, and Fraginal 16; all of which ensured the team’s win. During the college’s Foundation Day Celebrations, other athletic achievements in judo, karate do and chess, were also recognized.
