FIRST WOMAN GENERAL IN THE PNP VISITED PCCR
During the “I LEAD 2010” A Special Convocation of the 2010 Graduates


As a parting-gift to the Graduating Class of 2010, the Student Affairs Office and the Graduation Committee Batch 2010 held a special convocation on Tuesday, April 20, 2010 from 8am to 5pm at the JFAB Sports Center entitled “I LEAD 2010.”


The objective of the convocation was to inspire and motivate PCCR graduates as they face the “real world” – their career after graduation. There were two components in this activity. The morning session is a talk by the Guest Speaker to inspire and motivate the students. The invited speaker is PCCR alumna S/Supt. Yolanda Tanigue, Chief Women & Children Protection Center of the PNP; and in the afternoon, a seminar on Job-hunting Do’s and Don’ts, Tips on Job Interviews, and Resume Making.

The convocation was well attended by more than 500 eager graduates.  Rhoda Magayanes and Bernadette Solero opened the convocation by leading the invocation and national anthem respectively.  Dean Ariel C. Manlusoc of the College of Criminology gave the welcome remarks.  Mr. Roberlin C. Rubina Jr., the head of the Student Affairs Office hosted the convocation.  Dean Mercedes Foronda and Administrative Manager Eduard Solomon were on hand to welcome the guest speaker POLICE CHIEF SUPERINTENDENT YOLANDA GABO TANIGUE.  In her speech, she gave a background of the PNP and how to get it as well as her rich and inspiring experience in the PNP.


She is the Chief of the Women and Children Protection Center of the Directorate for Investigation and Detective Management, Philippine National Police. She is a native of Labo, Camarines Norte, started her elementary education at Kanapawan Elementary School and finished her secondary level at Camarines Norte Institute. She is a Registered Social Worker, graduated at Mabini Colleges, Daet, Camarines Norte with Master’s Degree in Criminology and Management. Children in Especially Difficult Circumstances is her dissertation for the Doctoral of Philosophy in Criminology. PCSUPT TANIGUE is a registered social worker before she joined the police service in 1980 as the Rehabilitation Officer at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP). With her numerous experiences in the police service, she was assigned in different field of assignments, to wit: Chief of the WCPC, Supervisor of the Investigator at Child Protection Unit, Philippine General Hospital, Chief, Medical Social Service of PNP General Hospital, a concurrent assignment, Task Group Commander of TF Zebra, Chief, Women and Children Concerns Office of Criminal Investigation and Detective Group, and Chief of Police of  San Pablo City, Laguna.


She had been unto arena of guestings at TV stations like ABS CBN, QTV 11,  GMA 7, PTV 4, IBC 13, RPN 9, etc to promote the rights of women and children. This also includes briefings, lectures and presentations in schools, communities and other organizations in disseminating laws and other issues on women and children.
PCSUPT TANIGUE initiates the “I text mo Kay Aleng Pulis Program” which is a dedicated SMS Complaint service aimed to address WCPC related cases. The dedicated SMS will get complaints or reports that are private in nature and gender-sensitive that only WCPC can handle.

She has received a lot of awards and recognition for her accomplishments, one of those is the Datan case, a Filipino- American sexual abuser who was sentenced 17 years of imprisonment and to give financial assistance to the victims because of her efforts in the successful investigation and coordination with other agencies and embassies.

The “FIRST FEMALE GENERAL” and “PRIME MOVER OF WOMEN POLICING FOR THE PROTECTION OF WOMEN AND CHILDREN IN THE PHILIPPINES” documented not only in the History of the Philippine National Police but as well as in the entire Philippine archipelago.

After sharing her experience, the graduates were given the opportunity to ask questions.  During her lunch, hosted by the Office of the President, Gen. Tanigue had met with PCCR’s President and Chairman of the Board, Gregory Alan F. Bautista.
 

In the afternoon session, Mr. Rubina and Mr. Solomon discussed with the graduates the different tips on job-hunting, resume writing and successful job interviews.
 


Truly, the convocation had given the graduating class of 2010 a lot of inspiring and helpful tips as they venture to life after college.
