As model students of Philippine College of Criminology (PCCR) Core Values of Discipline and Perseverance, Criminology graduates Kendrick de Guzman, Mark Lawrence Rance, and Gilrex Servidad, Jr. recently marched down the hallowed halls of the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) as part of Class of 2022. Different from most of their classmates, however, the three finished their degrees while also working as delivery drivers for Grab Philippines.
In 2018, De Guzman took the initiative to apply as a food delivery service driver part time, while also just starting his college experience in PCCR. When the pandemic hit, his friends Rance and Servidad joined him due to financial challenges and needs. They would attend classes from 7:30 am to 12:30 pm, and spend the rest of the day delivering items.
Their journey was not easy, especially during examination week, when they had to juggle reviewing for their tests while delivering their clients’ items. Sometimes, they would even take the exams in between deliveries, one of the benefits of flexible online learning.
To them, it’s all about making your situation better. According to them: “Ipakita mo sa kanila na hindi ka lang habambuhay na doon ka lang. Ipakita mo sa kanila na may patutunguhan yung buhay mo” (Show everyone that your life is not stagnant. Show them that your life has meaning, purpose, and direction).
For their next step, the three “Grab-duates” are preparing to take the December 2022 Criminologists Licensure Examination.
Mabuhay kayo, Batang 641!
